Principal's Message
My name is Donover L. Butler, and I am honored to be the Principal at Bethune Middle School. I am delighted to develop a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration that benefits everyone in the school community. I am a native of DeKalb County where I attended Peachcrest Elementary and graduated from Towers High School. I started my undergraduate at FAMU, and have degrees from Brenau University, and Cambridge College. My first job as an educator was as a paraprofessional at McNair Middle School and I taught social studies at Redan Middle School. I’ve served as Assistant Principal at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School since 2013.
I have essential knowledge of the processes, procedures and the culture of DeKalb County Schools. I have a solid educational foundation and strong commitment to serve and be a mentor. Equipped with an extensive background in all facets of educational administration, my main objective is to blend innovative and instructional methods to promote a productive, academic environment.
As a community builder, I have established supportive relationships that enable parents and students from diverse backgrounds to express their personal thoughts, feelings, and experiences. For our youth to be successful, a personal relationship must be established along with strong parental support. I am a firm proponent of the ideology that “The school cannot live apart from the community.”
