Talking To Your Child About COVID-19

Dear Bethune MS Parents and Guardians:

As Middle School (MS) Counselors, we are here to assist you and you scholar(s) in maintaining his or her social emotional health and well being. Middle school students understand a good deal about what is going on around them, and it is important that they receive good, reliable information from trusted adults. With that in mind, we would like to share two resources to assist you in talking to your MS scholar(s) as well as assisting you and your scholar(s) in managing stress levels during this unprecedented time.

We certainly understand the nature of uncertainty that you and your scholar(s) may be feeling.  We want to provide as many resources and support as we can. When scholars read (or watch the news) about an outbreak such as COVID-19, scholars may begin to feel anxious and show signs of stress and anxiety.  We encourage you to: 1) monitor their physical and mental health; 2) know the signs of stress in you and your loved ones; and 3) help scholars understand how to relieve stress and embrace self-care.
